Starting a blog - musings...

I have been encouraged for quite a while to join the blogging movement but always found it hard to motivate myself to publish my thoughts and reflections thinking that it would only interest me and no one else. I still feel the same way but decided to take the plunge and write down this blog as if it was a journal for my eyes only. It makes the process a great deal easier. As to the topic for the blog, well, it makes sense that I should write about what I spend most of my days doing which is... teaching or thinking about teaching. I work with grade two students at an IB international school in Qatar. Sounds exciting? Intriguing? Exotic? Well it is, in my many ways. The time I have spent at this school, this being my fourth year, has allowed me the opportunity to experience, address and answer some of the comments that I myself have made and heard countless times from many teachers. The comments can be summed up as: if I had more resources, then I would be able to be a better teacher or how can I be expected to do my job if I do not have enough resources? Well, I have the privilege of working in a school where, for the most part, money is no objection. If I feel that I need more books or tech gear or games or furniture or anything else really, I am able to get it. So, that should make me and every other teacher at the school absolutely amazing teachers, right?
In my next blog, I will share with you my reflections around this issue, since it seems to be used by many of us to justify not being able to do better in the classroom.
